Wilton Castle · History

A past worth preserving.
A future worth sharing.

From medieval origins to a deeply personal restoration, Wilton’s story is one of endurance, family connection, and a remarkable return to life.

13th century

A story with medieval roots

Wilton’s history reaches back to the thirteenth century. Its medieval origins belong to a much longer story than the restored residence you can stay in today.

1923

The fire that changed Wilton

The castle was burned during the Irish Civil War. For more than eighty years it stood in ruins, a powerful presence in the landscape beside the Boro River.

A decade of care

A personal restoration

Local dairy farmer Sean Windsor took on the work of rebuilding. His grandfather had been the estate’s manager in 1923, making the restoration a return to a family connection as well as a recovery of the building.

Today

A place to stay, once again

Four self-contained suites now allow visitors to experience the castle for themselves. Individual stays, family gatherings and weddings carry its story into a new chapter.

Come for the history.
Make your own memories.

The most meaningful part of a restored building is what happens next. Today, its rooms are a place for slow mornings, reunions, and celebrations.

Stay in one of the castle’s individual suites, or bring family and friends together across all four.
